I found these mirrors in the Christmas clearance last month. I couldn't figure out what to do with them untill now. I really love this photo so I colored it with copic markers and distressed it, added the butterfly wings and crystals to the mirror and I was done. Not to complicated just simple and pretty.

MORE PRACTICE!

I started this portrait a few months ago. I loved the expression on the Angels face in Leonardo's painting. I thought I would try to do something similar. I see now with the photos together that I need MORE PRACTICE! I did it with colored pencils which for me are not too forgiving so when I mess up she gets new features. It is alot harder when doing larger pieces. I usually do ATC size but this is 8 1/2 x 11.

Needs more work but I wanted to share!

I can't believe how long it has been since my last post. The time has flown by. The stomache flu has made its rounds again and again since November between my Husband and sons. I have managed to avoid it all!

This last weekend my parents came over so we could have Christmas finally. The picture above I got from my Mom. I love it....except for the weird little freaky head on the fountain. I never noticed it untill I took this photo. How did I miss that!?

I also got this celluloid photo album. It is over half full with old photos including the two pictured below. It even had a lock of hair from one of the babies. A little creepy but also cute.

September/October ATC Swap

I made these today for my ATC swap group at Creative Souls. They were both images of statues that I colored with chalks and copic markers. The hydrangeas were scans I did of real ones then cut out and dry embossed to make them look more real. I layered all of the pieces with foam mounting tape.

Gladys Cooper ATC's

Hi!!!

I held an open theme ATC swap on Creative souls this month. I had two partners so I made both cards with Gladys Cooper images. The top image I colored with chalks, copic markers, Faber Castle markers and prismacolor pens. I also stamped the background with a distress ink and added a black paper flower with a watch part to her hair.

The second image I use alot of brown and copper colors. Stamped the background again with the distress ink. I stamped the wing on copper colored c/s with versamark and embossed with Judikins sicky stuff embossing powder. Then I added Nutmeg art glitter. I also added diamond glaze to the edges of the card, her dress and wings. I added a feather behind her wing as well. This one is three layers thick.

Lina Cavalieri ATC's

Hello!

Here are a couple of ATC's I made using the same vintage photo of Lina Cavalieri. I use her images alot. On the first photo I transfered her onto packing tape and then glued her down over a rust image but only in certain spots because the glue was making her vanish. (happy accident?)

The second photo I used a versamark pen and colored all around her body then embossed with clear untill the powder had just about disappeared. This makes the paper see through so you could see the advertising behind.

Hi!

I am back from vacation. It was alot of fun but I have a ton of display boards to make and no time to play so I thought I would share this ATC I made a while back. The scrolls in the background were stamped on a photo with versamark and then dusted with interference blue pearl-ex powder. The wings were clip art that I cut out and added glitter to. There is foam tape behind the girl for dimension. I made the crown. The flowers are punches that I painted glittered and shaped. I also added rhinestones and wire. I painted pearl-ex pallette paint on her dress as well. She was so fun to make. I haven't made any like this in a while. When I am done working will have to make more!

HI!

I made these pins to sell in my booth at the mall. I saw some online and decided I had to make them! I tried to make some of them look like perfume bottles. I went to Michaels and found this wood box. It had dividers that I tore out then I made the panel they are on with a heavy poster board and velvet paper. I added a lock to the side and a hanger on the back.

I hope that they sell but if not, I will have plenty to use for my crafts!

My Newest Engraving Find!

I went to a new antique store yesterday while I was killing some time and found this Fred Millar colored engraving for a steal! I love the petina on the frame and it is my first colored engraving which was cool. It even came with its very own dead spider! Is that exciting or what? I made this ATC for the swap I host at Creative Souls. The theme is Jane Austen so I found a scene from Mansfield Park with Fanny Price and Edmund at her coming out party, cut them out and colored them black. I love this movie! I also used Jane's writing behind. It is a bit simple compared to what I usually make but I like that it's simple. I think it works.

Pretty Little Plate

`I can't remember what kind of plate this is but I thought it was so pretty and I love the way you can see through it. I thought it would look nice with a picture in the middle so I added one using PPA and then glued the white prima flowers around it. I added little blue sticky back rhinestones to the centers of each one.

Flower ATC for CREATIVE SOULS Swap

This is an ATC I made for the monthly swap I host on the Creative Souls Ning group. The theme was flowers. I have been so busy this last month it is a miracle I was able to get this done. Hopefully my partner will forgive me for being late!
I used a Penny Black stamp for the background. I masked the ballerina, colored the stamp with Tombow markers, spritzed with water and stamped. I chalked the rest of the color, added diamond glaze and crystal fine glitter. The flowers are from a hydrangea punch by Martha Stewart. I glued the centers to the skirt and curled the petals with tweezers while I held the middle down, then added rhinestones. I also added a vintage earring to her hair.

Hi Everyone! Here is my last feature card for the Penny Black blog this week. I scanned in the big star in her hand and blew it up to make her tag. I colored everything with colored pencils then added a massive amount of glitter! The little stars are iron on stars for your clothes I bought at Wal-mart. I colored them with sharpies.

Bottle Doll in Progress

Well I am almost done. I tried a few different hair pieces but they looked so huge on her head. I think I will have to sculpt her hair. I used a napkin ring for her upper body and sewed tulle to the bottom of the ring to make her tutu. Not sure if I am going to make arms yet. Maybe I will make wire arms with clay hands?Have a nice day!

Well I am on my last 16 boards(hopefully). I design and make display boards for all of the craft stores, US and International who order from Penny Black. Here are some pictures of what I am working on and a picture of my dining room work area.

Most of my stuff is in the garage but I keep what I use the most inside. I bought that desk recently from the Salvation Army for $65. It was behind other desks at the store so I didn't even know untill I got it home that all of the drawers have dividers and cubby's. I was so excited! And it is over six feet long so I have alot more room to spread out. Thanks for stopping by!

PAPER DOLLS

I host an ATC swap at Creative Souls each month. The theme was paper dolls this month. This is my first paper doll ever. It was SO fun to make. I got the pattern from Valerie Brincheck's blog The Sum of All Crafts. It is from the mermaid template. Thanks Valerie! You have to go check out her blog. She has amazing stuff there.

I thought I would use Cleo's head and make a ballerina. I added tool to make the tutu and I also added real silver thread and rhinestones to make her head band. She always has headbands on in her pictures so I gave her a pretty one!

I drew the lines on her leggings and chalked all of the color with pearlescent chalks.

I think I may have to start a paper dolls group!

DOLL IN PROGRESS

HELLO! I have been wanting to start a new doll so bad. So the last couple of days, since Dolltown's grand opening, I have been working on this little lady. I spent about half an hour each night. It is so relaxing! I tried a different paperclay this time and what a HUGE difference. I used the Creative Paper Clay brand. It is just smoother and blends so nice. I decided to use an antique bottle that I filled with little sea shell bits. I think they are abalone. I will keep you posted with her progress.

I have a booth at the mall in a store for crafts and collectables. I bought this big wire dress form and clipped my greeting cards to it. I took a picture with my Iphone and used the Photo Studio app to make it look like old burnt parchment. It is kind of a fun effect. My cards looked better in color but It still like it!

My first Inchie

So I saw this blog, Every Inchie Monday , and decided that I would like to try it out. You just make one a week, post it on your blog and leave a link on their blog to your post. It may get featured. But the fact that I made this in about ten minutes was so appealling to me! Love stuff that I can make fast. It is 1 x 1 inch. Just a tiny little piece of art.

First I rubbed on three colors of versamagic to make the water and sand colors. I then added a glitter that looks like sand. I glued on five abalone shell fragments to make the flower. I poured diamond glaze over all of the inchie except for the glittered part then added more crystal like glitter to look like the foamy part of the water.

I can not wait to get started on next weeks inchie!!!

Dress Form ATC Swap

I host an ATC swap group on Creative Souls and this month the theme was dress forms. This is what I made. I had alot of fun making this one. The actual dress form is an image from Ceremony who you can find on Etsy. I will have to find out who the other images are from if you would like to know. I made the beaded fringe on the bottom. I traced the dress form on white cardstock and cut it out, then beaded it. I then glued the dress forms together so you wouldn't see the holes where I sewed on the beads.

I bought this etching earlier this year. I really love it. Feel free to grab the image for your art! It came with this story attatched.

CLYTEMNESTRA, having killed her husband, Agamemnon, marries AEgistbus. Electra, the daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, mourning the fate of her father, waits the return of Orestes, her brother, as the avenger of her father's death.

Orestes, in order to deceive AEgistbus, sends a messenger to say that he has been killed at the Olympic games. As a proof of this report the messenger takes with him an urn containing what are supposed to be the ashes of Orestes and gives it to Electra.

From the "Electra" of Sopbocles we take Electra's lament over the urn containg her brother's ashes:

"O monument of him dearest to me among mankind, relic of the living Orestes, with hopes how changed from those with which I once sent thee forth, do I receive thee back! For now I bear thee in my hands, a nothing; but from thine home, and in a foreign land an exile, miserably hast thou perishd, away from thy sister ; nor with loving hands have I prepared the bath for thy body, nor from the all-consuming pyre borne away the bapless burden with accustomed rites. No, but cared for by stranger hands thou art come; a little weight in a little urn."

I made these for my swap group this month. I used antique hymnals for the song lyrics. I colored the backgrounds with colored pencils and colored the black and white photos with copic markers and pencils.

It has been a while since I made collaged atcs and I really love making them!

I made the pink Christmas card and was correcting it in photoshop and ended up changing the colors. Thought it looked pretty cool! Love photoshop but not very good with it yet!

Bird House "THE HAPPY HOME"

This is a birdhouse I made for my Grandma for Christmas. I used antique hymnals for the body of the house, painted the roof and base white, crackled the whole thing and added brown over the crackle. The bird is actually the same color as the greenery on the middle picture. I couldn't get it to look good. It was fun to make and cost me about $8 in supplies.

French Greeting Card

I made the main piece for this card a few years ago. I had a lot of card parts laying around so I put together a card with it. I think the stamp was from Stampington. The border stamp is Penny Black. I used nail polish, gold leafing and glass on it. It has been so long I can't say exactly how I did it!

I used rub-ons over the colored pencil. I wanted some writing but couldn't find anything good so I added the corners.

I cut her out and fit her into a fake silver platter that I got from the dollar store. I painted it black and added gold to the raised pattern. I also added gold ball chain to the edges. I made a flower with fabric petals, antique hymnal pages and a rhinestone. I wasn't sure if it belonged anywhere on the piece but took a few pictures to see how it looks. Still not sure!

This is about 8 x 10. The largest colored penicil drawing I have done. I have been working on this for about three days. I am not sure what to do for the clothes. I am thinking about doing some collaging. I might crackle the whole thing too. I added leafing to the background. Not sure how to finish!

These are my boys. Anthony, on the left, has lost all four front teeth and his two front teeth are all the way in. I just figured out how to get these off of my phone. They look so cute.

I have been working on new things for Penny Black lately that aren't released untill next year so I haven't had anything I could post. I am working on another portrait that I will hopefully have done by tomorow.

I bought this sketchbook earlier in the year for a drawing excersize. Well I never completed it and have a mostly empty book so I doodled for a little while. It was fun to just draw whatever on the page. Not thinking about it. Just drawing.

Feathers

Well I worked on this over three days. I did the featherd last. They were really fun to do. I wasn't sure I would be able to pull it off but they came out pretty good I think. I really like the colors. I was getting tired of the same shirt on every girl so feathers were a good alternative I think.

Starting Faces

So this is how I usually start drawing one of my many faces. I start out with an oval, then draw a center line vertically and horizontally. This helps me place where the eyes will go. When your face is tilted or turned to the side I like to curve the lines with the face as in the face on the left. After you make the two lines, start drawing a line between those and the sides and top of the face to make 1/4's. You can draw your mouth on the bottom quarter. Draw a line between the eyes and the mouth depending how long or short you want your nose. Then a line between your eyes and the top quarter you have your eyebrows.

I like to keep my eyebrows, nose and mouth in alignment.

You can start trimming the face down to give it curves like cheek bones, a skinny or wide chin and personallity. I curve in a bit into the sides of the eyes.

I am no expert but this is what I have taken from watching other people and this is how I do it so I hope it helps you. Hopefully it all makes sense. If you have questions let mem know!

BROWN AND BLUE

I put quite a few layers of different blues in the background. It just wasn't working out so I added the brown and it seemed to work. It was very bright. I feel like these faces are all starting to look the same. I looked through al of my cards that I had made last night because I sware I had done this one before. I guess I haven't but I may have to start drawing from portraits instead of my head to get some variety!

I have been trying to make on of these each night. It is good practice. I may be posting a short tutorial on how I start a face soon. We will have to see how much time I have available. I am starting to work on Valentines samples for Penny Black so I might get really busy here soon!
